TRS-80 Model 100 Makeover

Time to clean up the TRS-80 Model 100. To start with, here are the before and after shots – It has cleaned up very well!

This was quite dirty to begin with. It had some sort of greasy dirt layer, and the top case/ keys had become yellowed.

First thing to do is take it apart in order to give it a good clean.

Keyboards always get filthy, this was no exception. As always, a few dead bugs get in there as well.

So after removing the keys, there is a lot of muck in there. I have renoved that to the best of my ability from the fragile fabric.

You can see from the picture below, the grease does not come off easily with a normal sponge after a wash. The picture to the right shows the difference on the right hand lower section after a once over with magic eraser. Makes cleaning this very easy!

Its a bit hard to tell from the photo, but the top case is yellowed. Also the keys had yellowed lettering. Time to apply some cream peroxide and get out in the sun.

After one application of peroxide on the keys, and 2 on the top case, it is looking very good. Almost new!

Now I want to get some sort of game to run on it. Perhaps building a full null modem cable to allow file transfer is in order?

  1. Damn those pages bring back memories. I reeebmmr Sears having their own version of the Intellivision. All the games and the console were the same as Mattel’s, only the names of everything were changed (and were usually cheaper than the same games at Toys R Us).I used to spend hours looking at these pages, dreaming of owning all upon em. Ahhh to be twelve again.
