For my *cough* *cough* th birthday my wife decided to treat me to a cool video gaming present. Unbeknownst to me, she was searching far and wide to locate a boxed Virtual Boy Console in very good condition. Well the effort certainly paid off.
The console is the Japanese version. The box and everything in it is in very good condition, with the console itself looking hardly used.
I had used a Virtual Boy briefly while in Japan on holiday in a Super Potato store.
I received 4 games with the console, with a mate of mine also giving me a spare copy of Red Alarm for my birthday as well.
The games are actually quite cool. The sound that the console puts out sounds good too, considering it is not via headphones.
Now – a little bit about the games!
Red Alarm – I think this game is quite good. The wireframe graphics remind me of the old vector games (although not as smooth).
Mari’s Tennis – I am really not good at this game! Kept missing the ball. Started getting the hang of it after a while.
Galactic Pinball – This is a really cool pinball game, although it was more like hitting an air hockey puck around.
Pappilon Country Golf – I found this game quite addictive, each time I thought about ending the game I would think “Just one more hole”. It has a password save which is handy in case you cannot pull off long virtual boy stints without getting a headashe.
Kemco Virtual professional Baseball ’95 – Fun little baseball game. Typically I wasn’t great at hitting the ball, but I think with practice I could get much better. Would be fun to hit out a few seasons.
